Peter N. Wainman is an American entrepreneur, investor, published scientific researcher, and clean-tech pioneer. He is best known as the co-Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Equator Pure Nature Co., Ltd. (EPN), a Bangkok-based company that developed the award-winning Pipper Standard® brand of natural home, laundry, personal, baby, and pet care products. Wainman's work centers on globally patented pineapple fermentation technology that transforms agricultural products into natural, high-performance, biodegradable alternatives to synthetic chemical cleaners, a technology EPN calls "Pineapple Power".

Driven by a personal health crisis involving severe allergies linked to chemical exposure, Wainman has championed the "triple bottom line" philosophy—balancing financial success with social and environmental responsibility. Early Life and Education

Born in the United States, Wainman graduated as valedictorian from Glastonbury High School (Class of 1988), where he delivered a commencement speech featured in the Hartford Courant. In his address, he reflected on life's crossroads, growing independence, and the value of friendship and teamwork.

He earned a Bachelor of Science (S.B.) in electrical engineering (Course 6-1) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1992. As an undergraduate, he conducted research in the Laboratory for Electromagnetic and Electronic Systems, publishing his findings—a rare accomplishment for an undergraduate at the time.

His accolades at MIT include induction into Tau Beta Pi (engineering honor society), Eta Kappa Nu (EE and computer engineering honor society), and Sigma Xi (scientific research honor society), alongside a cumulative GPA of 4.9/5.0. While at MIT, Wainman was an active member of Theta Chi fraternity and formed lifelong friendships.

Wainman later obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) in electrical engineering from University of California, Berkeley, where he designed and built a plasma reactor for semiconductor processing. His experiments resulted in a lead-authored publication in the Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology. These early scientific achievements provided the technical foundation for his later patented clean-tech innovations.

Career in Finance and Investments

Wainman began his professional career as an investment banker at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corporation (DLJ), working in Los Angeles and New York. He played a key role in DLJ's international expansion into Asia, Eastern Europe, and Russia, including the NYSE IPO of VimpelCom, the first Russian company to list on the New York Stock Exchange, the AsiaSat IPO (Hong Kong) and the Pasifik Satelit Nusantara IPO (Indonesia). The DLJ network has remained a valuable resource for Wainman, with many former colleagues providing ongoing support and endorsements.

He advanced to Managing Director at Bay Harbour Management, a New York-based investment fund specializing in principal investing and private equity-style positions including notable transactions such as Next Wave Telecommunications and Barneys New York. Subsequently, he established and led the New York office of The Gores Group, a private equity firm.

In addition to Equator Pure Nature and Pipper Standard®, Wainman also currently serves as Managing Director at Equator Capital Group, a Washington, D.C.-based firm focused on renewable energy, technology, and real estate investments. He has also contributed to project development at Equator Solar Co., Ltd.

Wainman also served as an early founding investor, board member, and advisor to NextG Networks, which from a startup in 2001, scaled into a major player in distributed antenna systems, culminating in an approximately USD $1 billion exit valuation where original investors realized approximately 56 times their investment—a model that parallels EPN's R&D-to-patents to global scale trajectory.

Founding Equator Pure Nature and Pipper Standard®

Following a severe allergic reaction to chemical fabric softeners in 2010 that affected his family, Wainman—together with Sirilak Narongtanupone—began developing natural alternatives that year. The informal business started in 2010, leading to formal incorporation of Equator Pure Nature Co., Ltd. (EPN) in 2012.

Motivated by his own extensive allergies (believed to stem from chemical exposure) and the global rise in allergies, asthma, and pollution, Wainman sought to create healthier everyday products with positive societal and environmental impact.

Together with Narongtanupone, he developed proprietary fermentation technology, with the first global patent applications filed in 2013 under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), an international agreement among 150 member states administered by WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization). Wainman's and Narongtanupone's pioneering inventions launched the Pipper Standard® brand, with products beginning sales in late 2014. The line offers non-irritation-certified, biodegradable products across categories:

Home Care: Dishwashing liquids, floor cleaners, multi-purpose cleaners, bathroom cleaners, air deodorizers.

Under Wainman's leadership, EPN achieved rapid growth: products expanded to approximately 15 markets across Asia by 2026, with availability in thousands of "brick and mortar" stores and broad e-commerce presence. The company holds approximately 60 patents worldwide, covering markets representing roughly 65% of global GDP. Pipper Standard® products are eco-certified (certain products certified over 90% biodegradable within one month), packaged in recyclable HDPE bottles, and produced in an environmentally friendly closed-loop system.

EPN's sustainability initiatives include local farmer sourcing, pineapple waste upcycling, and bottle return/recycling programs—earning the brand the nickname "saving the world one pineapple at a time."

Recent milestones include multiple Pipper Day sell-outs in South Korea (2025) and pet care product launches at Pet Expo 2025. The company continues 2026 expansion with broader personal care line, additional pet care SKUs and innovative laundry detergents. In other recent events, in 2026, Wainman met with U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Sean O'Neil (9 January); Pipper Standard® was featured on Schwab Network (10 January); Wainman discusses sustainability at ASEAN 2026 Conference: “Powering Southeast Asian through 2050” (28 January); and Wainman gave a special lecture on sustainability at Mahidol University International College (MUIC) (3 February).
